I am a Portland-based artist working across mediums, with a focus in watercolor. My practice has long explored landscapes using light, color and atmosphere to create dream space, an otherworld. My work is experiencing a shift as I explore themes of memory, ghosts, and ritual through more personal symbolism.
Much of my work is smaller scale, created across a mix of materials: paper, wood panel and raw canvas. I work in a fluid style, allowing the paint and ink to ebb and flow, moving the colors in controlled brushstrokes, but also responding to what happens in process.
I’m often thinking of art as a sort of charm, a talisman, a personal symbol imbued with intention, magic, a spell cast. The way you might place a small crystal on a windowsill, my grandmother’s rosary carried when I travel, a love note written in the back of a book, a necklace with a birth stone, a piece of art placed somewhere unexpected in your home.
My current collection is a study in my daughter’s fascination with planets and celestial objects and our shared timeline together. Expanding on that idea, I am also considering recurring images for me that come from dreams: the moon, fire, heritage and the feminine experience.
